Mind Therapies and Coaching

Mind By Design offers a combination of hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, and personal coaching to provide a valuable and effective method.

Hypnosis Explained

All hypnosis is guided self-hypnosis combined with therapeutic suggestions to overcome a variety of psychological issues. Hypnosis employs a naturally occuring state of mind like being completely absorbed in an activity and is similar to the feeling before falling asleep. This easily achieved, altered state of awareness activates our unconscious mind where beneficial suggestions are accepted without conscious criticism to make deep and long-lasting changes.

The unconscious mind is a source of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as established habits and past trauma and a skilled therapist can help clients achieve tremendous results, exploring the powers of their mind and tackling deep rooted issues. A common misconception of hypnosis is once a person is hypnotised they become unconscious, unaware of what they are saying or doing, or be made to reveal personal information. This is attributed to stage hypnosis used for entertainment. You will remain fully aware throughout, able to reject suggestions and return to alert consciousness at will. It is completely natural and safe, with no harmful side effects (The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis).

Addictions, Anxiety, Childbirth, Chronic Pain, Confidence, Depression, Emotional Problems, Fears & Phobias, IBS, Insomnia & Sleep Issues, Low Self-Esteem, Obsessive Compulsions, Performance Enhancement in the Arts, Business, and Sport, Self-Defeating Behaviour, Stopping Smoking, Stress, Trauma, Unwanted Habits

A typical session begins with focusing on a type of relaxation such as progressive muscle relaxation. Then visualising a peaceful place as you deepen your inner focus. Relevant positive suggestions are given to engage the unconscious mind that takes on board deeper meanings. All this happens while the conscious mind is relaxing and therefore less likely to interfere or trying to judge and analyse the content through the lens of doubt. Towards the end, you’ll be invited to become more aware of your surroundings, re-engaging  your conscious mind and to open your eyes.

Clients have reported common experiences such as: complete physical relaxation, resulting in a felt heaviness; time distortion where more time has laspsed than expected, due to a deep inner focus; light tingling in the hands; an ease of ability to visualise and access experiences, which is highly useful for connecting with the experience where the issue began.

If you can daydream you can succeed with hypnosis. While there are different levels of depth of hypnotic trance, only a light trance level where you are relaxed with a focus of attention is used for most sessions. If a deeper level is required for pain relief or anaesthesia we would work together until you feel comfortable with your skill.

Hypnosis can access the unconscious mind and help you to change your perception and meaning of an event straight away. If it’s a habit you are changing scientists say it takes 66 days to change however, with hypnosis you are mentally rehearsing the new behaviour as if it’s actually happening and here’s the good part, your brain does not recognise the difference between real and imaginary, therefore you can speed this up with hypnosis.

Hypno-Psychotherapy Explained

Psychotherapy is also known as talking therapy and combined with the help of hypnosis to bypass the critical mind (hence the title) is an effective treatment for past deep-rooted issues and trauma but also for little traumas, such as an event that may not seem harmful to you now but at the time affected you emotionally and lodged itself in your nervous system. For example, you may be unconsciously avoiding your dream job because it entails giving presentations to large groups of people. You may be unaware that you were humiliated in school when a presentation went wrong and a memory that the experience was dangerous to you was imprinted and is now “protecting” you from feeling that again. The problem with only working on building public speaking confidence without dealing with the internal conflict is the deep-rooted fear will show up again and again in anyway it can to warn you and sometimes sabotage your good efforts. Working at the core of the issue clears the path for new patterns to form. Hypno-psychotherapy is an effective partnership for most therapeutic techniques can be delivered through the medium of hypnosis to reach the unconscious mind.

I have an integrative approach and combine different methods in a way to suit you best. First, we work on building awareness of which negative emotions and beliefs are keeping you stuck in a cycle of unhelpful patterns. Second, we work to dislodge the old patterns, settle internal conflicts and process the negative emotions. Third, you create new ways to think, feel and respond to new experiences, without the past baggage, all while building your confidence, strengths and resources to move forward.

Personal Coaching Explained

Coaching is an encouraging and supportive partnership where your true potential is brought out through thinking beyond limitations, strengthening your decision-making process and interpersonal effectiveness. We work on gaining new positive perspectives on personal challenges and new opportunities so that your goal is an exciting endeavor and not a dreaded process. You can feel reasurred to know you will have me to stand in your corner, reminding you of your strengths and your intentions to carry on when you face challenges. Coaching is designed to inspire you and expand your creativity to devise a path that you didn’t think you were capable of.

Coaching is used to gain clarity on what it is exactly you are after and creating your most effective and value-aligned ways to accomplish your goal. You see often times we think our goal is obvious to us but can’t find a way to get started or feel overwhelmed by the thought of how far away the goal is to where you are presently. By breaking down the steps and creating an action plan with built-in motivators that are tailored to your interests and on-going support to remain focused and accountable, you will reach the finish line and feel that swell of successful pride. This increases confidence not only in the satisfaction of being productive but also in the fact that you can replicate this in any area of your life in the future.

Combine therapy with coaching to reach your goals

"Fusion" Sessions

Fusion therapeutic coaching is an all-inclusive and valuable way to provide therapy and coaching. It’s a combination of hypno-psychotherapy, mind-body wellness and personal coaching, to implement new information and techniques that you have created and acquired, and can be integrated every step of the way. All too often clients have been excited by their “aha” moments of clarity after breaking through barriers, only to find that implementing their new discoveries into everyday life took a backseat. The initial excitement wore off and old habits came creeping back before the new change could take hold.

Fusion therapeutic coaching provides the all-important core work to change maladaptive emotions, thinking patterns and behaviours first, then provides a step-by-step plan to change or achieve something. This way, it provides the much-needed inspiration, sustained support and continued motivation needed to build your new mindset throughout the journey. Adding coaching to therapy addresses the problem of not taking action toward your goal after our session is over. Change simply doesn’t happen by thinking alone, the mind and the body need to feel the shift in energy. Others who try to do it alone find they lose interest, or find change to be difficult and then left disappointed once old habits take over again. This “fusion” of mind therapies and personal coaching is flexible and interchangeable and will be designed to follow your needs.

F.A.Q.

Please don’t hestitate to get in touch and ask your question

Please do get in touch and we can discuss your needs.

Solution-Focused therapy utilises present information and builds upon your resources to be able to move forward. However, it may be that the old patterns will still be active and may contribute to your current problems. In that case, it’s a good idea to use hypnosis where you’ll be guided through techniques to heal your past within your own mind, without the need to disclose anything.

Not if you don’t want to. Some processes work more efficiently by evoking your own thoughts and input, so that you are not simply receiving information from say my values or point of view. A hypnosis recording is a good example of homework, where practicing at home will speed up the process of imbedding new information.
